Artist's Comments

"Felix Felicis," based on Chapter 22 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, meant to portray Harry as he contemplates the small golden bottle filled with "liquid luck." I feel this is one of the most underrated moments in the literature that contributed directly to Harry's future...and his uncovering of the truth, and what leads to Voldemort's demise.

This is really a minimalist piece: pared down to only the essentials of the story, it's only Harry's face, his scarf (his mark of being a Gryffindor), and his hand holding the bottle, shining out of the darkness.

PRINTS ARE NOT YET SOLD OUT. I only produced 10 very limited edition 11x14" prints. Please email me at foxestacado@gmail.com to inquire about print availability.

This print sold at the Azkatraz charity auction for $110 in July 2009.

I admire your beautiful picture
It has an imposing effect on me, especially the face of Harry.

Keep up the good work! :shh:

i love how harry is shrouded in darkness. it's like depicting that the felix felicis isn't as innocent a potion as it may seem. brilliant work.

Thank you so much! It isn't an innocent potion, and while it is "luck in a bottle," Harry finds out one of the darkest and most unlucky truths about his battle against Voldemort: that Voldemort had split his soul with murder, in order to achieve a kind of immortality. That is a very dark subject, something that Professor Slughorn felt so guilty about that it took a very constrained and "lucky" set of circumstances for him to reveal to Harry.

Thank you so much! This is one of my best paintings of Harry. At first I painted him without his glasses, and he looked so vulnerable and so *real* to me that I was really sad to have to put glasses on him. I think I still prefer him without the glasses, but with the glasses, he is so obviously, so obviously, Harry Potter. It is an essential feature on him.

Thank you :) I try to give a lot of background of what I was thinking and aiming for for my paintings. Here is more information (including a draft of the painting that looks quite different) here: [link]
